Aether AI CRIS-0 checks each step and changes plans
Aether AI's CRIS-0 checks whether each step actually worked, and changes course when it didn't. The demos are the company's own tests.

What it is
CRIS-0, short for Causal Robotic Intelligence System, comes from Aether AI, a San Diego startup founded this year by UC San Diego professor Biwei Huang. It pairs two parts: an agent that picks what to do next, and a world model that predicts what an action will cause.
What the demo shows
While closing a microwave, the robot stops the moment a hand blocks the door. Before heating a snack, it spots a metal can inside and takes it out first. Think of a careful cook who looks before pressing start.
How it works
From a few demonstrations by a human operator, CRIS-0 breaks a task into small stages, each with its own check. After every step it verifies the result. If a grasp slipped or an object moved, it retries the step or goes back to an earlier one. Aether told Humanoids Daily that what surprised the team most was "how different 'the action completed' is from 'the intended outcome actually happened.'"
What to keep in mind
In its video, Aether says the robot reacts to danger in a fifth of a second. That comes from Aether's own tests, and no trial counts were shared. These are controlled household demos, not an independent evaluation, and not a promise that the robot will always stop in time. Aether itself names delicate, contact-heavy handling and unfamiliar settings as major limitations.
