AI tools, 2025 vs 2026: five upgrades in 30 seconds
One upgrade per AI tool, a year apart: Claude Max became Ultra, ChatGPT got two accounts on mobile, Suno moved into chatbots, Claude wrote Anthropic's Rust API, and GPT-5 gave way to GPT-6.1 Terra.

A quick-cut format test: five AI tools, one upgrade each, 2025 on the left and 2026 on the right. Every 2025 date below was re-checked against the original announcements.
1. Claude: Max 20x → Ultra
2025: Anthropic launched Claude Max on April 9, 2025 ($100 for 5x, $200 for 20x). 2026: the $200 tier is now Ultra, with no 5-hour limit for verified accounts (weekly caps still apply).
2. ChatGPT: one account → two on mobile
2025: one signed-in account per app. 2026 (Oct 30): ChatGPT keeps up to two accounts signed in, like work and personal, on web and mobile (mobile rolling out gradually).
3. Suno: v4.5 → Suno MCP (beta)
2025: Suno v4.5 shipped on the web on May 1, 2025. 2026 (Oct 28): Suno MCP, in beta, lets Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants make Suno songs in chat. Songs use your Suno credits.
4. Claude Code: preview → GA → writing Anthropic's code
2025: Claude Code arrived as a research preview on February 24 and became generally available on May 22, 2025. 2026: Anthropic says Claude wrote its Rust rewrite of the Messages API, using roughly 40–50% less CPU (Anthropic's own ballpark figure, from a podcast interview).
5. GPT: GPT-5 → GPT-6.1 Terra
2025: OpenAI released GPT-5 on August 7, 2025. 2026 (Oct 26): GPT-6.1 Terra costs $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens.
