OpenAI's help center says that from December, ChatGPT and Codex will share one usage limit on Plus ($20), Pro and Business plans.
What changes
- Usage is measured in tokens: heavier models and harder tasks use more.
- Instant chat doesn't count against it.
- Combined remaining usage and reset times show in Settings > Usage.
- When you run out, you wait for the reset, upgrade, or buy credits.
What we don't know yet
No per-plan token numbers and no exact December date yet. OpenAI says it expects most users won't hit waits more often than today. That's OpenAI's expectation, not a guarantee.
Do you use ChatGPT more for chat or for code?
