ChatGPT Pro subscribers can now claim monthly OpenAI API credits as part of their plan, according to OpenAI's API docs. ChatGPT Business workspaces get them too. Unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle and don't roll over, so an unclaimed benefit is money left on the table.
How much
- Pro ($100 tier): $100 a month
- Pro ($200 tier): $200 a month
- Pro ($500 tier): $500 a month
- Business: $20 per paid Standard seat, $100 per paid Premium seat, pooled and capped at $500 per workspace per month
Your first grant is prorated for the time left in your current billing cycle. No API payment method is required while you have free credits.
Claim it in 3 steps
- Sign in to ChatGPT with the account that owns the subscription, then open Settings, then Billing. (Business: your workspace's billing settings or the Admin Console.)
- Find the API credits benefit and start the claim flow.
- Pick the API organization that should receive the credits, and confirm.
You can also start from the API Platform: open Billing, find the API credit benefit, select your subscription, and confirm.
Who is eligible
- An active, paid ChatGPT Pro or Business subscription that is at least seven days old. Free trials and complimentary subscriptions don't qualify.
- You own both the ChatGPT subscription (or Business workspace) and the API organization, using the same email address.
- Plus, Go, Free and Enterprise plans are not eligible.
What the credits cover
Paid API usage on the linked organization, including the Responses API (text, code and image understanding), the Agents API, the Images API and the Realtime API. Codex usage through API keys is not covered, and the credits don't raise your ChatGPT limits.
A first thing to try
Send the Responses API a photo of your fridge and ask for a recipe card. The demo in our video is an illustration of that kind of request.
