The market on Monday

Anthropic's IPO filing lifted chip stocks on Monday, October 26. The Philadelphia semiconductor index rose 2.8%, though it is still down 12.2% for October. The S&P 500 gained 0.7% to 7,676.77 and the Nasdaq rose 0.8% to 26,169.38.

Why chip stocks rose

Anthropic, the company behind Claude, filed its S-1 with the SEC on Monday to go public. It plans to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker "ANT". The number of shares and the price range are not set yet, so no shares are for sale. Reuters said the filing helped lift AI-related stocks.

The filing shows sales of $16.29 billion in the first half of 2026, up from $1.16 billion a year earlier. It also shows a net loss of $80.7 billion. About $72.4 billion of that is a noncash accounting charge tied to its financing.

Other AI moves

Nvidia rose 2.4% to about $216, AMD gained 2.8% and Micron rose about 3%. Meta fell 1.9% after announcing a plan to raise up to $95 billion in equity.
