Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University built Pixel, a household chore robot, with a build cost under $15,000. It's a research robot, not a product for sale.

What it does

In the team's videos, Pixel vacuums and sweeps floors, grabs and hangs jackets, fetches snacks, tidies pillows and picks up toys in real home settings.

How well

Across its tasks, Pixel averaged 82% task progress. That measures how far it got through each task on average. It is not the share of tasks it fully completed.

Open source, later

The team says it plans to open-source the robot, but the code repository isn't public yet.

Would you want a chore robot at home?
