Micron stock fell 7.0% on Wed, Nov 4 after Democrats swept the midterms, including the Texas governor's race. Wells Fargo estimates Texas holds about 27% of planned US data-center capacity. The S&P 500 still rose about 1.6%.

Micron Technology stock fell 7.0% on Wed, Nov 4, closing at $795.23, down $59.87 from $855.10 on Tuesday. Based on the 1,131,423,212 shares Micron reported outstanding as of Oct 2, 2026 in its fiscal 2026 10-K, that is about $68 billion in market value.
The market on Wednesday
The S&P 500 rose about 1.6% to about 7,688.6, its best day in about three months. The Nasdaq Composite rose about 1.4% to about 25,736.5. Microsoft rose about 6.7% and Amazon about 6%, while Nvidia fell about 3.2% and CoreWeave about 9.9%.
Why Micron fell
Democrats won control of both the House and the Senate in the Nov 3 midterms. Democrat Gina Hinojosa defeated Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in Texas; she has called for a pause on new data-center approvals in the state until the Legislature acts. Wells Fargo estimates Texas holds about 27% of planned US data-center capacity. CNBC, Yahoo Finance and The Motley Fool tied the drop in Micron and other AI chip and data-center names to those election-night fears. Dan Ives of Yorkville Ives & Co. called the Texas result the "biggest worry" of election night for tech investors and the AI trade. Voters in several places, including towns in Ohio, Kansas and Florida, also passed bans or restrictions on data-center construction.
