What Microsoft reported
Microsoft MAI-DxO is Microsoft AI's diagnostic system for hard medical cases. In results published in the journal Science on Oct 22, 2026, it got 83% of hard published case records right. Physicians who could use books and the internet scored 36%, and 22% without them.
Everyday cases too
On emergency department cases from the MIMIC-IV-ED dataset, MAI-DxO scored 80% versus 47% for physicians. Microsoft says it reached its answers at half to a third of the cost, ordering fewer tests.
What we don't know yet
These tests used past and simulated cases, not live patients. Microsoft says a prospective study with real patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is planned. It is not a product you can use, and it doesn't replace a doctor.
