AI agents on SETI's telescope catch a pulsar live (not aliens)
SETI Institute and Breakthrough Listen, using NVIDIA tech, now run AI agents on the 42-dish Allen Telescope Array. The pipeline detected the known Crab pulsar in real time.

First, the important part: no aliens. AI detected the Crab pulsar, a well-known dead star, in real time.
What happened
The SETI Institute and Breakthrough Listen, using NVIDIA technology, put AI agents on the Allen Telescope Array (42 dishes, in California). From one plain-language request, the agents steer antennas, calibrate, fix data errors and run AI models on live radio data.
- Data rate: about 2.4 terabits per second, processed on-site
- Hardware: NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell GPUs
- Claimed first: the first real-time AI detection of a pulsar
What's next
The team is testing NVIDIA's open Nemotron models for observatories that could run offline, possibly one day on the far side of the Moon.
What should AI telescopes listen for next?
