Perplexity Computer can now run its model and agent fully on your Mac, working with your files and apps. It needs a paid plan, and Perplexity recommends 36 GB of memory.

Perplexity Computer, Perplexity's AI agent, can now run fully local on a Mac. Announced Oct 20, 2026, the new mode keeps the model, the agent harness and task execution on the device, so the files it works with don't go to a cloud model.

What it can do locally

With your permission, it works across local files and native Mac apps including Notes, Messages, Mail and Numbers. Code and tool execution run in isolated sandboxes. In Perplexity's demo, it reads a client's emails and tax documents and writes Q3 review notes, then builds a to-do list in Reminders.

Which models

Local mode runs Qwen 3.6 or PPLX Pro, a version of Qwen post-trained by Perplexity.

What you need

A Perplexity Pro, Max or Enterprise subscription and a supported Apple silicon Mac. Perplexity recommends 36 GB or more of unified memory for fully local mode. AppleInsider points out the standard M6 Mac mini tops out at 32 GB. To try it: update the Perplexity Mac app, download a local model in the app, then choose fully local.

What still needs the cloud

Web tasks and sending email still need the internet. You can also authorize Computer to escalate to the cloud for current information, browser use and connected apps, using more than 15 frontier models.
